Download & install links for phone browser. If you're using your phone browser in order to directly download & install the time limited version of Snake, without first downloading the files in PC, then please, instead of using the links on the other page, try these ones. See below why. . Download the Snake - Python engine, needed to run the Snake, included.
- If you don't know or care what Python is, then use this one.
Download the Snake . Needed preparations. The Snake installation files are all unsigned (for the time being). This means, there is a security setting in the phone that must allow installing any files. Make it so before clicking the links above. - Open Application Manager from the Menu
- Select Settings from Options
- Check what is says in Software Installation.
- If it says All then it is OK, otherwise change it to say All.
- (exit Application Manager)
. Reasons to separate links & other tips. It appears to be so that tanar.fi web host is not configured properly to support MIME types of Symbian installable (.SIS) files. This causes some/most S60 browsers behave strangely and not be able to start installation directly when clicking a download link from within the phone browser. The files of the download links on this page are stored on a different site (google sites, actually) which should avoid this MIME type problem. The side effect - the files named "randomly" - should be no issue as you won't even get to see the names if installation starts as it should. You can, of course, try the download links on the other pages, and with some effort you should be able to complete the installation. Some S60 phones start the installation process with no problem. Other phone models do save the files to Memory Card in Download folder. Some Nokia models, eg. E71, E90, etc. most probably open the installation file into Notepad as a crappy looking text, which appears to lead to a dead end with the installation process . There are tricks to try even if the install file first opens in the Notepad. After fecthing a file, the browser sometimes ask something like "XXXX downloaded - Open now, or Later?"; instead of Open, you need to answer Later to that (ie, save the file later), to avoid opening with Notepad. You'll then select Save from Options and open it separately with File Manager to start the installation. Sometimes, if the file is small (the installation file without Python is), the phone does not ask this question but just opens the file with Notepad. In such case, use the bigger download file, or use the following dummy big information text file (download it first) to force the phone to ask the question (with that, answer Later)!! Some models may require you start downloading the smaller file while the bigger one is still downloading. You might need to play with this a couple of times, but finally you'll get to answer Later to the question asked for the installation file. Download a big enough README.txt file now to enable saving the second installation file.
. When tested, for me the E90 (first sw version) browser crash every time I click any link on this page (files in google site). So with E90 I need to use the download links in tanar.fi ... with these steps I managed to do it, despite the problems described above. . StepsThe steps to manage the download with phone vary depending on the phone model, but you get the idea. This can be done in most phone browsers some way, at least with try and error if no way else. These are the steps to follow, to download & install the first Snake installation file with phone browser using Nokia E90:- - Click the download link above
- Note "Snake1.0_py_s60v3_limited_includesPython.sis downloaded" is shown
- Select Later (do not select Open)
- Select Downloads from Options menu (if Downloads list closed after previous step)
- Select Save from Options menu
- Scroll to eg. Root folder and select Save
- (exit the browser)
- Open File Manager from Menu (Office folder ?)
- Scroll to Snake installation file you saved a moment ago
- Select Open from Options menu
- Start answering Yes and Continue to next questions shown by the installer.
Please remember to select Phone Memory if that is asked.
